Our Venison Bowl offers a range of health benefits due to its wild-harvested, nutrient-dense composition.

The Venison Mince, Venison Heart, and Venison Liver are excellent sources of high-quality, bioavailable protein, essential amino acids, and vital nutrients such as iron, zinc, and taurine, which are crucial for maintaining lean muscle mass and supporting cardiovascular function. As a naturally lean and novel protein, venison is lower in inflammatory compounds and highly digestible, making it particularly beneficial for dogs with sensitive digestive systems, itchy skin, or chronic gut stress. Venison heart is especially rich in B vitamins and iron, supporting energy metabolism and oxygen transport.

The Coconut Oil, Coconut Meat, and Hemp Seeds support healthy skin and coat condition while helping to reduce inflammatory load. Coconut oil provides easily digestible medium-chain fatty acids that supply readily available energy and support gut health, while hemp seeds contribute omega fatty acids that assist with joint health, cognitive function, and immune regulation.

Finally, the Organic Kelp Powder and added Vitamins and Minerals ensure adequate intake of essential micronutrients. These support thyroid function, immune health, bone integrity, and metabolic balance, while antioxidants from whole food ingredients help protect cells from oxidative stress and support long-term wellbeing.

Venison Meal FAQs

How is the Venison Meal cooked?

Lightly cooked at 75°C using the sous vide method, then flash frozen. The low temperature keeps venison's protein structure intact, which is what makes it so digestible for dogs with gut stress or sensitivities.

Is the Venison Meal nutritionally balanced?

Yes. The Venison Meal is formulated to meet FEDIAF and AAFCO complete-and-balanced standards for both adult dogs and puppies. Venison mince, heart and liver deliver lean, highly bioavailable protein with iron, zinc and taurine, and they're balanced with butternut pumpkin, carrots, spinach, apples, blueberries, cranberries, coconut meat and oil, hemp seeds and organic kelp, plus a supplement premix that differs between the adult and puppy recipes to match each life stage. Adult ratios: 1.30:1 calcium to phosphorus and 2.13:1 omega-6 to omega-3.

How should I store the Venison Meal?

Frozen until needed, thaw overnight in the fridge, serve within 4 days. Don't refreeze a partially used pouch, and keep leftovers sealed.

Why is venison considered highly digestible for dogs?

Venison's muscle fibre is finer and leaner than beef or lamb, so the gut breaks it down more easily and absorbs more of the protein. Wild-harvested deer also carry a lower inflammatory load than farmed red meats, and our gentle 75°C sous vide cooking keeps the protein structure intact. The result is one of the easiest proteins for sensitive or allergy-prone dogs to digest.

Where does the venison come from?

Our venison is wild-game harvested from Australian deer populations, the same wild-harvest approach we take with our goat and kangaroo. Wild-harvested deer live on native vegetation rather than being intensively farmed, which keeps the meat naturally lean and lower in inflammatory load. Every partner we work with follows humane harvesting standards and the farm-to-plate traceability we apply across the 5 Hounds range. More detail on our Farming Partners page.

Who is the Venison Meal best suited to?

Dogs with sensitive digestion, itchy skin, chronic gut stress, or those needing a novel protein after long-term exposure to chicken or beef.

Is the Venison Meal suitable for puppies?

Yes. Puppies receive an adjusted version through the Puppy Club, with extras like dicalcium phosphate, zinc, iron, manganese and vitamin E for healthy growth.

Can I use Venison as part of an elimination diet?

Yes. Venison is a true novel protein for most Australian dogs, so feeding it exclusively for 6 to 8 weeks is a common way to assess the cause of an ongoing sensitivity. Consult with your vet if you're running a formal diagnostic trial.

How do my 5 Hounds meals stay frozen during shipping?

Every order ships frozen in an insulated box with ice packs via refrigerated courier, so the cold chain holds all the way to your door. You'll get tracking notifications before delivery. Move the pouches into the freezer as soon as your box arrives.
